Wildlife at the Apartments

For those wildlife enthusiasts among you, the Ballygally Holiday Apartments are the ideal base for exploring Northern Ireland.    Rathlin Island is an ideal day trip and a wonderful place to see Puffins, Guillimots, Razorbills and if you are lucky the odd Chough.  The RSPB viewing point at Bull Point is not to be missed and the highlight of a wonderful day out for young and old alike.   Nearer to home, Larne Lough is the ideal place to spot rare gulls and various species of wader along its shoreline.   Then we have the Antrim Plateau on our doorstep, home to the Irish Hare  (look for the White Hares in late Winter) and many , many raptors.  Castle Espie, Northern Ireland's WWF reserve is another day trip not to be missed at any time of the year especially Autumn/Winter when it becomes home to flocks fo Wooper Swans and brent geese.    Our own resident!! curlew is to be seen most days on the lawn outside the windows and keep your eyes open for the pods of dolphin regularily seen passing close by.  Sammy the Seal is also a regular visitor to the bay and much loved by the children.     Ballygally Head is home to a family of foxes (don't throw bread out for the birds!!) and a badger was seen a few times this winter grubbing along the carpark fence.   Lots to see, I promise.

      WELCOME TO MAY

      Hello Folks.

I can't believe that April has gone and that it is now May, where did it go?      I am beginning to think about summer planting in the garden, the grass cutters have been busy, the field of Memory is awash with daffodills, the rockery has had a Spring Clean and will be magnificent as always.  Thank you Thomas.     We are hoping for a very busy Summer and bookings are coming in thick and fast.  Our Spring maintenance is now finished and although I say it myself the apartments are looking very fresh and welcoming.   An exciting new website is under construction so watch this space for brilliant new photos, you will not be disapointed.

The swallows and house martins have well and truly arrived and we are now looking out for the terns and gannets both of which seem to favour our bay and are a treat to watch on a balmy summer night.   My cry now is 'Where are the dolphins'  Guests are warned to let me know if they appear - the most spectacular event and one which returning guests remember fondly - if they have been lucky enough to witness the display!!!

We will have a few new improvements for 2013. There is a designated drying room for those outdoor types  - no more wet boots and coats cluttering up your apartment.   Apartment No 4 has a lovely new bathroom and all the shower cubicles have been updated.    New bedding has been chosen and will hopefully be in place soon.

Guests are reporting that a visit to the Titanic Exhibition is a must.    This photo is of the outside of the exhibition building and is a life size representation of the bow of the Titanic.   More good news today is that The Game of Thrones, Season 6, is to be filmed again in Northern Ireland this summer and if you are lucky you may see the cast walking about the Village in their costumes, as the hills above Ballygally are where most of the outside scenes are shot.

This year looks as though it will again make Northern Ireland a good choice for holidays.   Derry/Londonderry has become the 1st European City of Culture and events will be ongoing throughout the year - check out their website for dates and times.  Belfast is hosting it's own Olympic Games in the form of The Police and Fire Games, which are taking place in August.  This, imagine will attract great attention with bookings coming in already.  Not to mention the All Ireland Rowing Regatta, in Carnlough right here on our coast  check out our events page to find details of dates etc.

Ballygally has certainly become firmly placed on the map as a wonderful place to spend a few days - or longer -  why not try it and see for yourselves - the views from the lounge areas cannot be surpassed and don't forget to book early to avoid disappointment.

E    Just give us a call if you have any queries and I will discuss your accommodation requirements and help plan your holiday. I look forward to meeting you soon. Don't forget - Come and visit us in 2013 - Northern Ireland is a wonderful place for a holiday and the Ballygally Holiday Apartments are the place to stay!     Best wishes,  Jennifer Riley (Manager)
