WebsiteRoyal PortrushHappy New Year 2012
Happy New Year to all our guests, past, present and future. Christmas is over and 'Holiday Mode' seems to be striking fast. I have been inundated with calls enquiring about holidays and short breaks. Maybe it is the dreadful weather making people long for a bit of comfort and relaxation - all available at the Ballygally Holiday apartments.
2012 is going to be a landmark year for Northern Ireland with the huge Titanic Festival kicking off on the 31st March to 31st May. taking in the Centenary of the Launch of the great ship herself. Exhibitions, Museums, Tours, Talks - you name it, all will be happening this year. Then in April we have the World Championship Irish Dancing Festival, also in Belfast. We always have a number of overseas dancers staying and it is a treat to watch them practicing their routines round the apartments. Of course all Giants Causeway fans are looking forward to the opening of the wonderful new visitors centre, a long anticipated feature of the Causeway, watch this space for the exact date.
Winter always sees an influx of wild life round the apartments and this year is no exception. The Stonechats have returned and the Eider duck are plentiful in the bay. For four years we have been visited by a lone curlew who seems to live with a flock of oystercatchers. Even returning winter guests now look out for him feeding on the lawn. A surprising visitor last week was a huge badger, spotted two evenings in a row poking his snout through the fence, perhaps sussing out the accommodation!! Twitchers from all over Ireland descended on Ballygally this weekend to see an Iceland, a Bonapartes and a Glaucous Gull in the bay - what a treat.
2011 was a wonderful year here at the Ballygally Holiday Apartments, lots of fun, amazing people and lovely stories to tell - or not!! Our guests travelled from afar afield as China, Trinadad, The Cayman Islands and Alaska. The power of the internet is huge and we seem to be capturing our fair share of traffic from it. A little boy asked me in August if I would keep 'his stuff' as he would then come back soon and get it!!
Our new Spar shop has given new life to the village and guests are enjoying a stroll along the promenade for their morning paper. Our Village Hall is also now open with classes to suit all ages, Yoga, Fittness, Kids Clubs, Art Classes to name but a few Guests staying at the Holiday Apartments will be especially welcome. Ballygally is certainly becoming firmly placed on the map as a wonderful place to spend a few days - or longer - why not try it and see for yourselves - the views from the lounge areas cannot be surpassed and The Winter can be a wonderful time to take a break in our warm and comfortable apartments.
Even better Just Our golfing guests can avail of a complimentary 18 holes of Golf at the famous Cairdhu Golf Club. Just get in touch and I will discuss your accommodation requirements and answer any queries you may have. I look forward to meeting you soon. Don't forget - Come and visit us in 2012. BREAKING NEWS - The Shop is now open for business
September 2011. Congratulations to Graeme and his team - We now have a new shop and the sales of Maud's ice cream are going through the roof. We were awarded a lottery grant + a grant from Larne Borough Council + DARD, and with the help of the local community we should have a wonderful facility very soon indeed. We would like to congratulate everyone who put in and are still putting (voluntarily!) in a phenomenal amount of work to complete this project. We were one of just 10 villages in the UK to receive a lottery award this year so as you can imagine the excitement is fantastic.

FIND YOUR ANCESTORS
The National Archives of Ireland have recently gone on-line with the 1911 census. Many of Northern Irelands counties including Antrim are now active and the census is a great tool for family research. Have a look!

At a gala dinner in the Ballygally Castle Hotel on the 23rd October, Ballygally Holiday Apartments certainly caught the eye of the judges' when they won the Larne Borough Business Awards 'Tourist Project of the year 2009' During the year we worked very closely with local Tourist Providers, Carnfunnock Country Park, Glenarm Castle and Cairndhu Golf Club to name but a few. We wanted to enhance our visitors experience to the area and to promote the beauty of the beautiful Antrim Coast Road and Causeway Coastal Route. The Sunday Times voted this route one of the best routes for Driving Holidays. We were so pleased to have this work recognised and to have yet another award plaque to hang in our reception!!
