    CARNFUNNOCK COUNTRY PARK

    Carnfunnock Country Park is only a short distance from the Ballygally Holiday Apartments and offers a wide range of events to keep you entertained throughout the year.  The adventure playground has been re-furbished to enable it to cope with the estimated 200,000 people expected to use it in 2010.  There are great walks through the woods, a children's play area with fun zone, a maze, a golf driving range and much, much more.  Check out their website through the link below for events taking place  every weekend during the Spring and Summer months, far too many to mention here.   You will not be disapointed.

    HILLSBOROUGH  OYSTER  FESTIVAL

    THURSDAY 2ND TO SUNDAY 5TH SEPTEMBER, 2010

                                                                                                                                                               Here in Ireland we are lucky to have the best oysters along our shores and our oyster festivals have become major tourist attractions both here and accross the water.   In Co. Down you can join the fun at the 18th annual Hillsborough Oyster Festival - live entertainment, gala ball, the oyster eating championship and much more - a great day out in the heart of the Mourne Mountains.

    Carrickfergus Castle - Lughnasa Fair

     DATE:  31st July, 2010  Carrickfergus Castle hosts many events during the summer and one of the most popular is the Lughnasa Fair in July.  - enjoy local crafts, food and entertainment.   Do visit this wonderful website and learn about all the events taking place at Carrickfergus Castle and other venues in Northern Ireland in 2010.  A visit to historic Carrickfergus Castle is a must for the kids   The Castle is only 18 miles from the apartments and is a wonderful day out for all the family

    GLENARM  CASTLE

    Please visit Glenarm Castle's website to see what events are being held there throughout the year.  The coffee shop in the walled garden will be open throughout the summer and has proved to be  a favourite place for a relaxing lunch.  The Tulip Festival officially launches the 2010 season from the 1st May to 3rd May.  The castle will be open for tours during these days and the 8,000 tulip bulbs planted by the gardeners will be in full bloom. Visit the website below to find details of opening hours and prices.   the end of Season Castle open day is on Sunday 12th September and is always a popular event.

      RSPB Reserves in Northern Ireland

      If birds are your thing, Northern Ireland is the place to come and visit.  Rathlin Island has one of the largest sea bird colonys in the British Isles and is home to the Rathlin puffins.  Even the very rare corncrake has made an appearance here in recent years and choughs are often to be seen.    Strangford lough is one of the RSPB's greatest successess in Northern Ireland and is a bird watchers paradise.   Follow the link below ot learn more about events being held in 2010.  Happy bird watching

      Every month during the spring and summer there are events to please: - Larne Music Festival in MAY, Larne Alive Pirate Festival in JUNE,  Slemish and Shilnavogie Walk and Carnlough Charity Carnival in JULY,  Larne N.I.         NORTH  WEST  200  -  2011

        The 2011 dates have yet to be set  -  May is the month!!

        The North West 200 motorbike road race is Ireland's largest outdoor sporting event and as usual takes place on the legendary triangle between Portrush, Portstewart and Coleraine.   More than 150,000 spectators line the roads to watch this exciting event.   The practice week takes on a festival atmosphere with concerts and other entertainement geared to include all the family.
